Rochefort-Jemelle
The stock of musical instruments
Since 2016, Music Fund’s stock of musical instruments has been housed in the municipality of Rochefort-Jemelle, near to Marche-en-Famenne, in a building provided by the Lhoist company. Here, thousands of instruments donated to the association are housed in conditions conducive to their preservation while they wait to be repaired and sent to partner projects.
Local anchoring
Music Fund values exchanges with various local social projects as a way to contribute to the community volunteering in the towns of Marche-en-Famenne and Rochefort-Jemelle. Once a week, for example, young people with a mild mental handicap from the non-profit organisation Andage in Marche-en-Famenne help the coordinator of the workshop with various tasks: cleaning up and sorting instruments and scores, updating the database, making up palettes of instruments, etc. Every year, Music Fund also welcomes young people from different youth projects through the local authority youth support programme Action Milieu Ouvert (A.M.O.) and Mic-Ados ‘Sac-Ados’ project.
Donations of ALGAM guitars
The Music Fund team regularly participates in various international trade fairs for musical instruments and musical tools (MusikMesse in Frankfurt, Music China in Shanghai, etc.) in order to establish contacts with manufacturers of instruments, spare parts and accessories.
From one of these encounters came the collaboration with the Algam company in 2018, who provide Music Fund with a significant number of classical and folk guitars every year. These instruments, which have small aesthetic defects or are models that are no longer produced, are new and perfectly playable. We take advantage of this unique opportunity to distribute them to our project partners, but also – and to a greater extent – to various socio-artistic projects in Europe and throughout the world (Antigua and Barbuda, Germany, Brazil, Mexico,…).
